As you enter this virtual space of ‘Liminal’, welcome to the ninth issue of Philament. The journal has now settled into its established model of Features and Excursions sections, providing appropriate shapes on which to drape the liminal theme – feature articles offering moments of crisis; excursion works offering moments of creation. It seems that ‘Liminal’ is apt for the space that we, as postgraduates, inhabit: on the threshold of scholarship; teetering on the brink of publication; floating between fragments – half written, half imagined – that will eventually transform into theses. Surrounded by liminality, as if in some unconscious speck of time, we find ourselves balancing on the rim of an alchemist’s crucible, and when and if we fall, will there be king’s horses and king’s men to put us back together or are we irreparably changed, never to revert to the shape we once were? Enjoy this space and the reflections of our contributors that become ‘Liminal’.
