Excursion

Editorial Note

Bonny Cassidy

This issue launches the new season ‘Model’ with a virgin section, ‘Excursions’. This part of the journal seeks to create an arena for contributions which would formerly have found a home in ‘Commentary’ and ‘Creative’. We’ve gone a step further, in fact, and made ‘Excursions’ the all-singing, all-dancing non-peer review section of Philament, where you can expect a range of experimental, unconventional and downright un-academic articles.

In this issue, we are lucky to have work ranging from the filmic to the ficto-critical, review to visual poetry. In Uli Krahn’s stunning marriage of text and image, we journey into the palimpsest that is Sydney, seen through an artist’s eye. James Stuart’s poetry also travels, through line and page, into its very own ‘imagism’, while Margaret Mayhew looks at the looked-at in her definition of ‘the model’. Review essays meet with the hybrid forms of Eu Jin Chua’s essay-project and Madhu Rai’s vivid non-fiction.

We encourage you to engage with the work presented in our ‘Model’ issue. Feel free to interact with any of the pieces in any of the categories by responding in whatever form you prefer. If you are working on a parallel issue, idea or theory, for example, you may want to write an academic article that supports or refutes a contribution found here, or to critique an article through poetry or prose. Philament would also like to extend an ongoing call for opinion and comment pieces on ‘Excursions’ content (maximum 500 words).
